Learn what positive training really is. It’s not about bribing your dog to be good. It’s about learning to teach your dog in a positive, non-harsh way to give you the behavior you want.
Can’t I just use praise to train my dog?
I never have used treats to train my dogs. I just physically put them into a position (sit or down) then praise — if they get up I correct them. What’s wrong with that?
My dog will only work for treats. So, for my dog and I guess me it is all about the treats. I tried once to quit using treats but she stopped doing her commands.
How do i wean her off treats?
I have really been working with Lexi. Setting the timer every 3 hours for pottying. I call potty and she runs to the door now and I have stopped the treat at the door. She goes around the yard, potties, and when we go in she stops immediately at the counter and waits for her high value treat. Is that OK or should I eventually eliminate it or eliminate it now. I am quite excited with her progress because the tile is going in and the area rug is ordered.
My rescue dog is a little bully, she gets in the other dogs spaces on a regular basis. All through the day I am consistantly removing her and I confess yelling at her to stop. This makes me feel bad as the other 7 dogs do not require this type of behavior from me. I obtained her at 15 weeks and she is now around 28 weeks she was spayed at 22 weeks. I rescued a 6 week old pit-boxer mix who I took to training and she is pretty well behaved. perhaps I need to take Saddy to training classes
